Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How many sessions will I need?
A: This is a difficult question to answer but the first session is usually an assessment session and then I suggest that people plan to come weekly for the first 3 to 4 weeks and thereafter sessions are likely to be less frequent. Some disorders require more input than others and it does depend somewhat on the goals that clients want to achieve.
Q: Will I have to do homework?
A: In order to get the best treatment gains, I always give people between session homework to consolidate treatment sessions and to help clients develop skills to manage their own symptoms. My goal is to teach people skills to be their own therapists.
Q: Will my information be confidential?
A: Yes all information that is shared in sessions is strictly confidential and cannot be shared without the client’s permission. The only exception is if someone presents information that suggests that they are at serious risk to themselves or to others or that they are at serious risk from others.
Q: Are there any subsidies available to help with payment?
A: Some people may be able to apply for WINZ subsidies to support therapy sessions. Contact WINZ for more information. For people 20 to 25 years of age, there may be Spare Change funding through the I Am Hope foundation. Please research this directly through their website.
